A.   Sustainability staff are engaged in development of the website and are able to approach our marketing department when changes/updates are required.

A.   Council has a green purchase clause in its procurement policy and is currently promoting this aspect through a green purchase trial. It is also investigating options to include ethical standards in its purchasing decisions.

A.  No Council does not use a sustainability framework in all of its reporting, planning and decision making processes. It does however, have a Environmental Advisory Committee which is approached concerning issues of an environmental nature before such items are presented to Council.

A.   Council explicitly supports sustainability within its annual report, however, does not use any such sustainability guidelines or framework. Sustainability is clearly supported within the annual plan through mention of its fourth strategic goal – A Sustainable City.

A.   Council is currently drafting its first State of the Environment report due for release this financial year. At this stage, it is intended to be republished on a three year cycle.

A.  No No formal or regular opportunities are provided for but staff have been able to liaise with Councillors in an ad hoc fashion.

A.   We undertake our own hygiene measures and are lucky in that we don’t have any Pc identified sites.

A.   We have the new Local Law regarding specific environmental weeds and their control. We also have a list of high priority weeds that we target within the reserves.

A.  No However, the City of Mandurah’s TravelSmart Local Government Officer contract (which involved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department for Planning and Infrastructure to employ an officer over a 29 month period) concluded on the 6 February 2009. The City still actively promotes TravelSmart and maintains involvement in the State Government’s TravelSmart Program.

A.   100%

A.   100% by various agencies, most recently First Climate Group.

A.   Published within reports to Council for 2009/10 and to be published every year. Red line indicates 2010 target.

A.   Several strategies have been employed in the past through the TravelSmart program but none seem to have had any lasting or effective results. The City has purchased four bicycles for its fleet, which are available to staff for commuter use, recreational use throughout working hours (e.g. lunch time rides) or for travel to and from meetings.

A.  No

A.  No 120 vehicles, only 4 achieve less than 8 l/100km.

A.   Each staff work station within the Administration Building and Civic Centre is provided with its own recycling bin. Recycling bins at these buildings are collected weekly.

A.   Council has a bokashi bin in five of its lunchrooms.

A.  No A large majority of the City’s paper waste is recycled but not all.

A.  No Recycling bins are provided at each work station, in kitchenettes and in staff rooms in the main Administration Building and Civic Centre. This system is effective but would not capture all of this type of waste.

A.   In main Administration and public buildings.

A.   50% of purchased paper is 80% recycled.

A.   Waterwise natives are planted wherever possible.

A.   Council has also installed subsurface water reservoirs to store water for future use.

A.   The Council has achieved the Corporate and Community milestone 5. The City of Mandurah is also participating in the national pilot program of the Catchment Module with other Peel Region Councils.

A.   Council is endorsed as a Waterwise Council.

A.   Measures are in place, however, they aren’t always effective in ensuring entitlements are not breached. 99% of bores are metered and read monthly. Water quality parameters are tested annually.
